Military orders to H.E. Bartlett : ALS, 1864 Nov. 11-1865 Aug. 2.

Three one-page letters to Bartlett, Acting Master of various ships, from officers of the Mississippi Squadron of the U.S. Navy during the Civil War. The first letter is from Lt. Commander Byron Wilson, of the U.S. Steamer Onichita, off Donaldsonville, La, on the Mississippi River; it requests that Bartlett report for service as a member of an examination board. The second letter, dated Feb. 4, 1865, is from A.R. Admiral S.P. Lee, of the flag ship Black Hawk, on the Mississippi River, notifying Bartlett of his detachment from the U.S. Steamer General Price and assigning him command of the U.S. Steamer Valley at Mound City. The third letter, also from Admiral Lee but written from Mound City on board the flag ship Tempest, addresses Bartlett as the Commander of U.S.S. Samson, and gives orders for towing a barge loaded with mortars.
